Master-piece out of plastic: German industrial supplier launches new cable protection system

18.10.2017

Industry, trade and shipbuilding supplier WISKA is expanding its product range to solidify its position as a full-range supplier in the field of cable entries with a new development in cable protection: a fitting for non-metallic conduits called BraceFITTING.

Industry, trade and shipbuilding supplier WISKA is expanding its product range to solidify its position as a full-range supplier in the field of cable entries with a new development in cable protection: a fitting for non-metallic conduits called BraceFITTING. The new fitting made of high quality plastic has been designed to provide comprehensive protection as well as save time during handling.

"By now, users had to make sure that the correct fittings were used in accordance with the applicable protection requirements. Our new system, however, has been designed for IP68 from the go. Thereby the product always offers the highest protection standard for every conceivable application, while this also helps with storage as only one single fully assembled component has to be kept in stock", explained Lars Wiemann-Laasner, Business Development Manager Industry at WISKA.

In addition to providing comprehensive protection, the product allows significant time savings during assembly and maintenance. The fastening section of the BraceFITTING is designed in such a way that it directly grips into the conduit and can be opened and closed again using a standard tool in just a few seconds. The sealing ring is connected directly to the product by two component injection moulding. This ensures perfect sealing properties and guarantees that the ring cannot be lost during assembly.

The idea of supplementing the existing product portfolio of cable glands and a cable entry system with cable protection was clear and obvious to Lars Wiemann-Laasner. "We strive to provide our customers with comprehensive solutions in the field of cable protection. As a supplier with many years of experience in plastics processing, it was merely the next logical step to have this knowledge influence the development of the new product."

In addition to the BraceFITTING, the company based near Hamburg also supplies the corresponding non-metallic conduits and the metallic range of fittings and conduits. The range is rounded off by braided and woven sleeves for comprehensive protection.

HERE you can find further information about our Brace® cable protection system and technical details.

WISKA is showcasing its new cable protection range Brace® live at SPS IPC Drives exhibition in Nuremberg, 28 to 30 November, hall 5, stand 445.

Hamburg industrial company WISKA becomes official sponsor of HSV young talents

22.09.2017

The Hamburger SV (HSV) can once again look forward to a sponsorship from WISKA during the season 2017/18. The company is a supplier to diverse industries, trade and shipbuilding and has extended its partnership as sponsor of the long-established German Bundesliga football team. Furthermore, WISKA is also one of the first companies to get involved in HSV’s newly formed association for young talents.

‘The fact that WISKA is continuing to sponsor the HSV demonstrates great trust in the partnership. As a sponsor of our junior teams, our partner is now also getting involved in the vocational and advanced training of our young football players. There isn’t enough praise that can be said for this commitment,” said HSV CEO Heribert Bruchhagen, commending the further collaboration.

‘With its newly built campus, the HSV has established an intensive training centre in which young talents have the opportunity to launch their careers in professional sports. As a family-run company, we know how important this support is. Young people need an opportunity to prove themselves. This is a very good way to build a bridge into the future. That’s why we expanded our partnership to include sponsoring young talents,’ said WISKA general manager Ronald Hoppmann, who leads the company in its third generation together with his sister Tanja Hoppmann.

The head of the youth training centre, Dr. Dieter Gudel, is also pleased about the new sponsor’s involvement: ‘We are very happy to have gotten WISKA on board as a dedicated partner for our youth training centre. We believe that people should always have more than one option – a leg to stand on and a leg to kick with. It’s important to give our young players deep insights into another working environment. In this regard, WISKA is an important sponsor.’

Supporting young people has always been extremely important to WISKA – which is demonstrated by the company’s vocational trainee to employee ratio of 10 %. In addition to providing young people with comprehensive vocational training, a focus is also on self-responsibility. From internal projects to representing the company at established trade fairs – at WISKA, vocational trainees learn what it means to play an active role in shaping the company and to assume responsibility.

‘People still learn best from their own experiences,’ said Ronald Hoppmann, and added: ‘Our experience is that vocational trainees are particularly happy here. After all, over 15 % of our employees are former trainees.’

Twin-shot competence by WISKA: Cable glands rethought and grommets with strain relief for multiple cables

12.04.2017

On the Hannover Messe two novelties are awaiting the visitors on the WISKA fair stand. Both benefit from the long standing expertise in twin-shot moulding.

The cable gland MARATHON convinces with its new design and elevated strain relief according to category B (EN 62444). This has been realized by separating the sealing from the strain relief function.

The new MultiCLIXX combines the advantages of existing grommets by WISKA: Customers can insert up to four cables via the soft membrane component at a minimum of time. Strain relief is accomplished by the intelligent grommet construction.

With the introduction of the Brace cable protection system and the cable entry system CONMAXX in the last year WISKA now offers its customers all cable entry solutions from its own production, including the proven cable gland range.

Besides the product news the focus on the fair is getting to know customers and partners better and deepening the business relation. “A good relationship is based on knowing each other. For good business relations this is extremely important as well as a trust basis”, says Ronald Hoppmann, General Manager of WISKA.

This keynote is also reflected in the communication of WISKA and the fair stand which focuses on relationships. Coffee house elements such as furnishings, a coffee bar and a bench invite to linger and have good talks to get to know each other.

„We are convinced that good business works like that. Fist get to know each other and then talk about our customer´s needs and ours products. “, adds Hoppmann.

The fair stand of WISKA on the Hannover Messe can be found in Hall 13, Stand C76.

WISKA lights up a Hamburg landmark

06.09.2016

Using high-power searchlights, WISKA shines the spotlight on the Hamburg Television Tower at SMM, the leading international marine trade fair.

At SMM in Hamburg, WISKA was not only exhibiting in the trade fair halls, but was also carrying out a very special project together with Hamburg Messe und Congress GmbH (HMC): Four stainless-steel halogen metal vapour searchlights, normally used in container shipping, have been mounted on a ten-foot container in front of the main entrance of the fairgrounds. To mark the occasion of the SMM, they illuminated the Hamburg Television Tower and the trade fair entrance throughout the trade fair from 6 – 9 September. Along with St. Michael’s Church, the TV tower is one of the most prominent landmarks in the Hanseatic city. “The idea came about last winter at one of the many international trade fairs at which WISKA also exhibited its own searchlights on a joint stand with us”, recalls Claus Ulrich Selbach, business unit director at HMC. “We are very pleased that our idea has now become reality.” Ronald Hoppmann, WISKA managing director added: “Normally our searchlights sail the seven seas, but to light up the Hamburg Television Tower – that’s both an honour and something that is very close to our hearts.”

The Heinrich Hertz Tower, which was opened in 1968 and is located next to the Hamburg trade fair centre, was for decades one of the biggest attractions of the city. Its observation platform and panoramic restaurant offered a spectacular view over the Alster and Elbe. Since 2001, however, the tower has been mothballed and can no longer be entered. Despite this, the love of the people of Hamburg for their TV tower has not diminished with the closure of the platform.

The Kaltenkirchen-based company WISKA also showed its affection for the Heinrich Hertz Tower with the lighting installation at SMM 2016. With its searchlights, the company ensured that one of the most important Hamburg landmarks once again shone for four days in all its former glory.

WISKA presents Innovations in Ex Products, Camera Surveillance, LED and Reefer Container Sockets

06.09.2016

At SMM this year, WISKA is presenting a new energy-efficient luminaire for hazardous areas to the expert audience: The Ex LED Luminaire 4200 is based on the LED multi-purpose luminaire 4000 by WISKA, which has proven its quality in thousands of operating hours worldwide. It is maintenance-free, easy to mount and install as well as cost-efficient, making it the ideal choice for applications in hazardous areas on vessels and for the offshore industry.

A brand-new floodlight series by WISKA also uses LED lamps and is being introduced to the public for the first time. The modular and cost-efficient in-house development comes with no aluminium at all and is able to cope with even the hardest environmental conditions. Each LED module consists of special heat conducting plastic, its overall protective casing is made of stainless steel. The single modules are working independently. The LED floodlight 5000 will be available with one to four modules with options of tilting and dimming. Standard halogen floodlights can be replaced by the new LED 5000.

Within one of its core businesses, the reefer container sockets, WISKA is also presenting a another innovation of its VARITAIN® range: VARITAIN® PushIn Advance. The new reefer container socket revolutionises the ship´s power connection to the socket itself by relocating its cable connection with terminal block and cable protection into the cable gland area out of the casing. The WISKA developed power port therefore allows for a significantly smaller casing and protection for all internal components as for initial setup by the shipyard, opening of the casing´s lid now is a thing of the past. The shipyard´s installation will thus be considerably faster and easier – a gain of time for the yard and high operation reliability for the owner.

Last but not least, also in its range of computer-controlled CCTV systems, WISKA showcases a new product for hazardous areas with its Ex Dome Camera. Its integrated connector unit does not need external cabling anymore. With the new camera, WISKA is successfully extending its product range of CCTV-systems.

The industrial company WISKA is official supplier to HSV

25.08.2016

WISKA, supplier for industry, trade and shipbuilding, is now a new supplier to the Hamburg Sport Club (HSV).

Alongside emotional support, the famous Bundesliga club can also look forward to sponsorship from Kaltenkirchen for the 2016/17 season. “We are delighted to be supporting HSV as an official supplier. We have a lot of soccer fans among the workforce and close ties with Hamburg, the city where it all began for us. It just feels right,” said WISKA managing director Ronald Hoppmann, who represents the third generation of management in the family-owned company with his sister, Tanja Hoppmann.

How did the company come to support HSV in this way? “It came about like this,” as Hoppmann then explains: “We were sitting in Hamburg together with colleagues from our English subsidiaries.” The main topic of conversation for the evening was the legendary Wembley goal.

“Our German colleagues were obviously convinced that is was not a goal,” recalls Hoppmann. “Our colleagues from WISKA UK thought differently, but that is how it is when you are discussing the most legendary goal in footballing history. We could have gone on forever. Someone in the group came up with the idea of staging a ‘Wembley revival match’ between WISKA UK and WISKA Germany, in order to rewrite history, in a very tongue-in-cheek way of course,” said Ronald Hoppmann.

Creative juices within the global medium-sized enterprise with 260 employees then began to flow. How about holding the match in Hamburg at the HSV stadium, taking our employees to the stadium on the HSV bus and then introducing them to a well-known HSV personality?

The idea gave rise to a project. The ‘WISKA Wembley Revival Cup’ would be held on HSV’s ground, a fun event bringing together employees from both countries through sport. “We met officials from HSV to present our idea and the pieces just fell into place.” The result was that WISKA will be an official supplier to HSV for the 2016/17 season.

The ‘Wembley Revival Cup’, with WISKA facing the English subsidiary, was held on 28 June at the Hamburg Sports Club ground. The afternoon’s surprise guest was HSV legend Uwe Seeler, who gave a first-hand account of that Wembley final.

“We are proud to support HSV, for it’s not just the history, but also the thrill of sporting competition that joins us together,” said Hoppmann with a smile.

50 years of the Wembley goal: Revival of the legendary football match in Hamburg

29.06.2016

A football game representing the 50th Anniversary of England versus Germany at the World Cup at Wembley in 1966, was played at the HSV Hamburg training facility. The “WISKA Wembley Revival Cup” on the 28th June 2016.

The teams consisted of Sales employees and Management Staff from both Countries, with members from Scotland and Northern Ireland acting as referees and support staff.WISKA Managing Director Ronald Hoppmann welcomed the participating teams and opened the encounter: “Here at HSV, a football club with one of the richest traditions in Germany, we are pleased to be playing against our colleagues from WISKA UK with friendship and ambition. Both nations and teams are enthusiastic football fans. Despite all this ambition, on this day fun is clearly at the forefront.” Together with his sister, Tanja Hoppmann, he has run the family company founded in 1919 in Hamburg with subsidiaries in China, India, Paraguay, Spain and the United Kingdom into the third generation.

50 years of Wembley. A legendary occasion to which a surprise guest was also invited - the HSV grandee Uwe Seeler. During his career Seeler was thought to be one of the best midfield players in the world and he is now the honorary playmaker of the German national football team. The honorary citizen of his home city of Hamburg was available to the WISKA teams for last minute tips before the match. On the question of which WISKA teams the ex-international was supporting, Seeler explained, “I am neutral today – the focus is on friendship.”

Despite an 8:4 defeat of the German WISKA team against the subsidiary from England the atmosphere remained relaxed. “We’re doing it like professional footballers. On the pitch the enjoyment of sporting competition unites us and off the pitch, friendship,” summarised Hoppmann.

Uwe Seeler presented the cup to the victorious WISKA team from England. Afterwards, both teams took the HSV Fan Bus to a Hamburg beach club, where the eventful day came to a close with a relaxed barbecue.

WISKA introduces its new WHK junction box for electrical installations within commercial buildings. The modular unit consisting of the box and various lids can be supplied pre-wired, using installation connectors from all major manufacturers.

WISKA introduces its new WHK junction box for electrical installations within commercial buildings. The modular unit consisting of the box and various lids can be supplied pre-wired, using installation connectors from all major manufacturers.

With the WHK, WISKA is combining its junction box expertise with the idea of power distribution via installation plug connectors. Pre-fabricated components for building automation, e. g. lighting systems, make it possible to connect the power supply in seconds. By using pre-wired installation connectors, complex wiring inside the junction box is no longer needed. Connection of lights, blinds, sockets and switches to the electricity is time-saving and efficient due to the plug-in options in the lid of the box.

Easy installation and high mounting flexibility

The WHK junction box has eight predispositions for a wide range of connector combinations. Depending on the customer requirements WISKA delivers the junction box with prewired 3, 4 and/or 5 pole installation plug connectors from all regular manufacturers. Alternatively the installer can use the pre-punched knockout options to insert the preferred connectors into the plug-in locations independently. All plug-ins can be easily knocked out manually. Another benefit of the WHK is the high installation and mounting flexibility: A wide range of mounting options is available, for example onto cable trays, threaded rods and mounting plates or using screw anchors, nails or click-installation.

Connector systems – for a safe and flexible installation

Connector systems continue to advance in electrical installations presenting an alternative to traditional installation systems. Installation connectors form the electrical interface between the power supply and distribution, as well as power consumers such as lighting systems. This enables lighting, security (PIR) and building automation applications to be wired through one unit – which makes for a fast and safe pluggable electrical installation. The prewired components make it possible to connect and disconnect the power supply in seconds, and significantly reduce the installation time required. Therefore the WHK is the ideal junction box for all electrical installations within commercial buildings. Whether it is in an office building, supermarket or train station: installation connection systems are used as a plug-in solution wherever flexibility, safety and cost-efficiency are required.

Small and hot: The new flat cable gland series by WISKA

11.03.2016

WISKA introduces its new cable gland series ShotGLAND. The name says it all – as "shot" stands for "small" and "hot".

The new cable gland by WISKA has been designed especially for the industrial usage where extremely hot or very cold ambient temperatures prevail. Thanks to its minimal installation height, the ShotGLAND is one of the flattest cable glands on the market.

The sealing inserts can be adapted to the individual application: For extreme temperatures the LT version using efficient silicone sealings is ideally suited. It is made for extreme operating temperatures ranging between -60 ° C and 180 ° C, among others, used in the steel industry or the sensor technology. Is the main aim a space-saving installation, the EPDM version is ideal.

The ShotGLAND cable gland is available in thread sizes from M 8 to M 63 thereby covering a broad application spectrum. Both versions standard and LT are offered with an EMC insert. Using different sealing elements large range clamping sizes can be realized.

With the development of the ShotGLAND, WISKA has again proved its long-standing competence for application specific cable glands. ShotGLAND is the ideal addition to the existing cable gland series by WISKA like the breathable Venting products, the Hygienic Design series HatGLAND or the railway series.

High air flow rate with a space-saving design - The new breathable VentPLUG pressure equalization units emphasize WISKA´s Venting competence

11.03.2016

Especially flat and highly breathable – those are the two outstanding features of the new VentPLUG pressure equalization units in the sizes M 20 and M 40 by WISKA. With these new products, the supplier for the craft, industry and shipbuilding underlines his overall competence in the field of condensation prevention.

With an enhanced membrane, WISKA has significantly improved the air flow rate of the new VentPLUG pressure equalization units in M 20 and M 40. In the standard version of the membrane the air flow rate is more than doubled. The high air flow version even achieves an again 2.5 times higher value. The advantages of the used ePTFE membrane e. g. resistance against UV, salt water, oils and grease is retained and make the VentPLUG suitable for roughest conditions including maritime environments.

Another novum is their space-saving design. WISKA has developed two especially flat pressure equalizations units in M 20 and M 40. They are ideally suited for electrical installations with limited space – e. g. in LED lighting modules. Furthermore the new units with their bigger thread sizes are made for the venting of big enclosures as for example in switch board constructions.

Broad possible application due to wide product range

The VentPLUG in M 20 and M 40 complement the extensive venting product range consisting of cable glands and pressure equalization units and thereby offer an even broader application. Breathable venting products from WISKA ensure effective pressure equalization between the interior and exterior. This reduces stress on the seal and maintains the enclosure´s protection classes. Venting products from WISKA therefore help to increase operational safety and extend the service lives of electrical installations. This has a sustaining positive effect on maintenance costs. VentGLAND ® cable glands and VentPLUG pressure equalization units are being used around the world, especially in sectors that are moisture and temperature sensitive such as shipping, and the lighting and solar industries.

Pioneering Venting competence

Being a pioneer in the development of breathable cable glands, WISKA today is an expert for watertight yet breathable components avoiding condensation.  With the launch of the VentGLAND®  in 2007, the world's first cable  gland with pressure equalization, WISKA set new benchmarks. Thread sizes include M 12 to M 63 with a wide range of materials such as polyamide, brass and stainless steel. Completed by their high protection classes of IP 68 and 69K, venting products by WISKA appear to be true multitalents. On request WISKA is supplying the box pre-wired.

The new in-house developed ShotGLAND is likewise versatile. Small and Hot: SHOT - The name of this new cable gland series says it all. Besides its special compact design, it is perfectly suited for applications under extreme temperatures. This is being ensured by silicone sealings while standard applications will be served by EPDM inserts. When it comes to most compact components, ShotGLAND with its minimal installation height is one of the flattest cable glands on the market.

Being a pioneer in the development of breathable cable glands, this year WISKA is also going to extend its Venting range. Besides the VentGLAND® and the VentPLUG pressure equalization units in M12, WISKA now also manufactures polyamide pressure equalization units in M20 and M40. These convince by their new high-performance membranes, which in high airflow quality compared to the standard membrane even achieve a 2.5 times higher air flow rate on the same membrane size. Just like all applied membranes of WISKA, the new types are UV and salt water resistant and therefore ideally suited for roughest environments.

Last but not least, WISKA is going to showcase its CONMAXX cable entry system for the first time in Frankfurt. Following a modular design, by choosing frames, grid units and seals, CONMAXX allows for a maximum of individual cable entry. The closed frame, the grid audibly locking into place and the conically shaped sealing elements make it unique and ensure a significantly easier and safe assembly. The varied choice of sealing inserts ensures a variety of cable diameters, safe seal and strain relief on the cable by their conical design. Later changes to cabling are easily realized by exchanging the seals and grid units; dismantling of the frame is not necessary.

Say goodbye to condensation

10.11.2015

Solutions to solve problems with water condensation in electro-technical installations

WISKA, supplier for the electrical trade, industry and shipbuilding, presents its comprehensive product range of cable glands and junction boxes at SPS IPC Drives from 24 to 26 November 2015 in Nuremberg. One of the particular emphases at Europe's leading trade fair for electric automation technology, is on the venting solutions supplied by WISKA. They prevent condensation in electronic housings and short circuits in sensitive electro-technical installations like LED-luminaires.

Condensation can occur in all areas of electrical installation within tightly-sealed cases that are exposed to changes in temperature, and therefore differences in air pressure between the interior and exterior, despite high IP protection classes. And wherever there is water, there is the risk of corrosion, electrical short-circuits and other damage. These often result in power failures, bottlenecks in supply, and cost-intensive downtime.

Protection against condensation has often been provided in the form of electronic heating ventilation systems, which are expensive and require a high level of maintenance. Or drip-holes in cases, although these also mean the loss of a high protection class. WISKA confronts this challenge with its breathable venting products for pressure equalisation.

The VentGLAND® cable gland and the VentPLUG pressure equalisation unit have a breathable ePTFE membrane, which is watertight and at the same time permeable by air, meaning that it is possible for the pressure between the case interior and exterior to be constantly equalised. That way the formation of condensation is avoided. In addition, the air flow rate can be adapted to customer´s needs, as the pressure equalisation products supplied by WISKA are equipped with different membrane types.

VentGLAND® and VentPLUG both have the high protection class IP 68 and 69K, as well as being UV and salt water-resistant, making them suitable for roughest conditions. The cable glands are available in the following materials: plastic, brass and stainless steel. The locking elements are available in brass and plastic, and stainless steel on request.

The venting products supplied by WISKA are used in engineering and craft applications, for example. Light manufacturers, particularly those who produce LED lights, are also making use of VentGLAND® cable glands with increasing frequency, to protect components in light cases. Customers include the shipping and offshore industries, as well as rail engineering companies, keeping their technical systems ready for operation even in severe environmental conditions.

Alongside its venting products, WISKA is also presenting additional cable glands for various areas of use at SPS IPC Drives 2015 in Hall 5, at Stand 445.

WISKA with world premieres at SMM 2014

09.09.2014

WISKA presents its latest developments in the fields of maritime lighting, reefer container sockets and camera surveillance

WISKA is presenting a total of five new products to an international trade audience for the first time at SMM 2014 in Hamburg. One highlight will be the multi-functional, LED multi-purpose luminaire 4000. The DNV GL certified luminaire 4000 contains a minimum of system components and is maintenance-free. The elimination of extra housing not only reduces the need to procure and store spare parts, but also greatly simplifies installation. The time-consuming process of opening and closing the housing to replace the lamp is now completely eliminated. The LED tube can be clicked easily into place without any additional tools.

The innovative lighting system is designed for use in both weather exposed and interior areas. The standard breathable concept gives the electrics enhanced protection against moisture and condensation water, thus preventing short-circuits and corrosion and ensures a longer useful life.

Particularly helpful for the user is the modular system design: The LED multi-purpose luminaire 4000 can be easily combined with other units depending on the desired application and lighting requirements. The flexible interconnection of two or multiple tubes provides the optimal level of illumination as needed. Whether in engine rooms, work platforms or on car decks, the 4000 is optimised for maritime applications requiring reliable, durable and efficient lighting solutions.

Additional reefer container capacity with the PushIn Mobile Splitter

WISKA has developed a splitter for use in reefer container logistics that expands the number of reefer container sockets available on board. The PushIn Mobile Splitter is a portable unit that can turn one reefer container socket gang into two.

Over the years, the amount of electricity consumed by reefer containers has been reduced. The mobile splitter now allows the existing electrical capacity on board to be used by maximising the number of available reefer container sockets without requiring any modifications to the ship’s electrical infrastructure. The module can be quickly and flexibly installed and uninstalled by the crew as needed.

The system is an internationally standardized CEE socket device compliant with IEC 60309 and has been DNV GL certified. The proven PushIn technology from WISKA ensures that voltage is applied only when the plug is fully inserted. The connection is automatically turned off when the plug is pulled out.

The latest generation of CCTV cameras: network, high res and POE-compatible

Another highlight of WISKA at SMM 2014 will be computer-controlled CCTV camera surveillance systems designed for the maritime industry. WISKA has a total of three new products to present this year: a flameproof camera system for hazardous areas on board, a pan-and-tilt camera made from stainless steel, and a plastic dome camera of protection type IP 68.

All three CCTV innovations are characterised by being fully networkable (IP-compatible). They can be easily integrated into existing on-board networks and centrally controlled. They also have advanced Full-HD technology to deliver crystal-clear, high resolution images that go well beyond what analogue cameras can provide. The three camera stations can be operated via POE (Power-over-Ethernet), which means that a single cable is used to transfer data and power to the CCTV system and no additional power supply is required.
